mr B. Wegelin (Barbara)
Barbara Wegelin specializes in Dutch and EU immigration and nationality law, as well as international family law in relation to children. She is particularly known for handling complicated family-based and humanitarian applications, revocations, discretionary applications and cases that require human rights and/or asylum-related expertise.
Prior to joining Van der Woude de Graaf, Barbara was a senior lawyer at Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers, where she was in charge of the private client section. Prior to becoming a lawyer in 2007, she worked at the Australian Human Rights Commission and the United Nations Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. She has also been engaged by the Dutch Refugee Council as a strategic adviser for EU asylum law.
Barbara studied Law at the Free University of Amsterdam and McGill University in Montréal, Canada. She frequently publishes in professional journals and provides specialist training to attorneys and organisations, including the Dutch specialist associations for immigration lawyers, WRV and SVMA. Barbara is frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences, as well as in the regular media.
Highly regarded for her advocating skills, Barbara is the treasurer in the International Bar Association’s immigration and nationality law committee and a member of the standing committee of experts on international immigration, refugee and criminal law (the Meijers Committee).
